FoodSafe Level 1

FOODSAFE Level 1 is a food handling, sanitation and work safety course designed for front line food service workers such as cooks, servers, bussers, dishwashers, and deli workers. The course covers important food safety and worker safety information including food borne illness, receiving and storing food, preparing food, serving food, cleaning and sanitizing. The BC Health Act: Food Premises Regulation states that every operator of a food service establishment, and at least one employee on every shift, must hold a FOODSAFE Level 1 certificate, or certificate from a course recognized as equivalent to FOODSAFE. FOODSAFE Level 1 is delivered as an eight hour face-to-face class.

The Food Safe Level 1 program provides the essential food safety training for individuals working or planning to work in the food industry. It covers topics such as proper food handling, sanitation, preventing contamination, and maintaining safe food storage.

Faq

1. What are the class hours for Food Safe Level 1?

This is an 8-hour program.

2. Are late arrivals acceptable?

Late arrivals are not acceptable under any circumstances. You should arrive in class at least 15 minutes before the start time to fill out paperwork.

3. How many questions are in the exam?

There are 50 questions in the exam.

4. What is the passing percentage?

To pass the exam, you need to get 70%.

5. What is the price for Food Safe Level 1?

6. Can we run a Food Safe Level 1 at our jobsite?

Yes, we do onsite training for Food safe Level 1.

7. Are there age requirements to Food Safe Level 1?

There is no age restriction, as long as participants can understand the material.

8. Do I need any experience prior to taking Food Safe Level 1?

No prior experience is necessary for this course.

9. Can you send me the price quote?

Yes, please provide your email of choice and the quote will be sent.

10. Can I bring pets to Food Safe Level 1?

Under no circumstances should there be pets in the classroom. Exceptions can only be made for certified service dogs.

11. Can I leave the training early?

No, to receive your certification, you must complete the full 8-hour course.

12. Can I leave the classroom for 30 minutes and come back to continue the class?

No, to receive your certification, you must complete the full 8-hour course.

13. What happens if I miss the class or don’t ask for a refund in time?

If you miss the class or fail to ask for a refund in a timely manner, you will not be able to get a refund of any kind, meaning you will pay the full price.

14. What is the refund policy?

You can cancel or reschedule a minimum of 5 business days prior to the course. For this you can contact us via email: info@mainlandsafety.ca or by phone: (604) 617-0211.
Business days exclude all statutory holidays in British Columbia and weekends.

15. Is there a fee for refunds even if I request one 5 business days before?

Yes, all refunds are subject to an administrative fee equal to 5% of the courses face value.

16. Will I receive a certificate upon completing the course?

Yes, you will be issued a temporary certificate which is valid for 90 days

17. How long is the certification for Food Safe Level 1 valid for?

The certification for Food Safe Level 1 is valid for 5 years from the date of completion. After 5 years you will need to retake the full course to get recertified.

18. Can I take a renewal class after my certificate expires?

There are no renewal courses available for Food Safe Level 1. To receive a new certificate a students must retake and pass the course.

19. Can I take Food Safe Level 1 online?

Yes, Mainland Safety doesn't offer online courses. However you can check foodsafe.ca to get more details

20. Do I need to bring anything to the course?

Just yourself and one government issued picture ID.

21. Is Food Safe Level 1 recognized outside of BC?

No, Foodsafe Level 1 certification is valid only in the province of British Columbia.

22. What language is this course taught in?

The FOODSAFE Level 1 course is available in multiple languages to cater to a diverse workforce. Here are some of the languages offered for the course:

  • Chinese: Available in both Simplified and Traditional Chinese.

There are no prerequisites to FSL1.
