Equivalencies
Starting from March 2025, Canadian Red Cross – Emergency First Aid is equivalent to WorkSafe BC – Basic First Aid.
Similarly, the Canadian Red Cross Also has Emergency First Aid in Blended Format – 4 hours online, 4 hours in Class, you can Finish the course in Half a Day

Faq
1. What are the class hours for Basic First Aid?
Basic First Aid is 8 hours long in total. 7 hours are spent in class, and there are two 15-minute
coffee breaks, with a 30-minute lunch break.
2. Are late arrivals acceptable?
Late arrivals are not accepted under any circumstances. You should arrive in class 15 minutes
before the start time to fill out paperwork.

Parking is available at our Guildford location by the fence around the back and sides of the

Business days exclude all statutory holidays in British Columbia and weekends.

18. How long is the certification for Basic First Aid valid for?
The certification for Basic First Aid is valid for 3 years from the date of completion. After 3
years you will need to retake the full course to get recertified.
19. Can I take a renewal class after my certificate expires?
There are no renewal classes available for Basic First Aid at Mainland Safety. To receive a new
certificate a student must retake and pass the entire course, or its equivalent.

Course Content
Basic First Aid Skills:
- CPR and AED for adults and children
- Choking relief techniques for adults, children, and infants
- Recognition and management of common injuries and medical conditions such as cuts, bruises, and fractures
- Treatment of wounds, including cleaning and dressing
- Management of sprains, strains, and other minor injuries
Emergency Response:
- Scene assessment and safety
- Effective communication with emergency services
- Basic principles of first aid, including the ABCs (Airway, Breathing, Circulation)
- Handling bleeding and shock
- Recovery position and safe transportation of injured individuals
Workplace Safety:
- Understanding the role and responsibilities of a first aider
- Overview of workplace first aid kit contents and usage
- Legal and Regulatory Requirements for Workplace First Aid
