Basic Security Training

Basic Security Training (BST) is a 40-hour course that adheres to the standard curriculum. Students will learn the fundamentals of private security, as well as the rights and obligations of a security professional, as well as reporting requirements and personal safety techniques.

Who should take this training?

People new to the security industry must complete Basic Security Training before applying for a provincial Security Worker Licence. 

 What will you learn

Basic Security Training aims to provide a foundation in:
Professionalism and Ethics Legal Studies
Report writing and personal safety
Students who successfully complete the online course and final exam can apply for the BC Security Worker License.

  • Price: $200 Plus GST (5%)
  • Breakdown: $160 for Course & instruction, $40 for Books & materials.

How to register for the exam

Students must have completed BST Theory (SCRT-1651) before registering for the BST Exam (SCRT-1656).
Once the theory (in person class part is completed, you need to register using the following link – https://www.jibc.ca/course/basic-security-training-assessment)

Students must complete a 100-question multiple-choice exam at the end of the course. To pass, you must score at least 60% on the exam. You will receive a BST certificate once you have completed the course

$200 Plus GST ($160: Course, $40: Books & Materials)
How long is the course?
The course is 40 hours long, our schedule is Sunday 9 am – 5 pm, & Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday 5 pm – 9:30 pm
How can I register for the Exam?
After completing the in-class course, Mainland Safety will send your details to JIBC (Justice Institute of British Columbia, New Westminster BC), and you (participant) will receive an email for registration confirmation. Then you can book an exam. You have two choices, either book an exam online or in person at JIBC (715 McBride Boulevard, New Westminster, BC, Canada, V3L 5T4)
How much is the exam?
$63.5 Approx. and a participant will pay this fee directly to the Justice Institute of British Columbia.
Should I take fingerprints?
Yes, you have to, we will help you in getting your fingerprints done. The cost is $85 plus GST and a representative from Mainland Safety can help you to do the fingerprints.
How much is the license fee?
