BASIC SECURITY TRAINING
Basic Security Training
Basic Security Training (BST) is a 40-hour course that adheres to the standard curriculum. Students will learn the fundamentals of private security, as well as the rights and obligations of a security professional, as well as reporting requirements and personal safety techniques.
Who should take this training?
People new to the security industry must complete Basic Security Training before applying for a provincial Security Worker Licence.
What will you learn
Basic Security Training aims to provide a foundation in:
Professionalism and Ethics Legal Studies
Report writing and personal safety
Students who successfully complete the online course and final exam can apply for the BC Security Worker License.
Tuition & Fees
- Price: $200 Plus GST (5%)
- Breakdown: $160 for Course & instruction, $40 for Books & materials.
How to apply

How to register for the exam
Students must have completed BST Theory (SCRT-1651) before registering for the BST Exam (SCRT-1656).
Once the theory (in person class part is completed, you need to register using the following link – https://www.jibc.ca/course/basic-security-training-assessment)
Students must complete a 100-question multiple-choice exam at the end of the course. To pass, you must score at least 60% on the exam. You will receive a BST certificate once you have completed the course
