At Mainland Safety Training Company, we offer the Basic First Aid course, previously known as Occupational First Aid Level 1 (OFA Level 1). This course is designed to provide essential first-aid skills for handling common workplace injuries and medical emergencies. Perfect for anyone needing a solid foundation in first aid, this course is ideal for ensuring a safe working environment and meeting basic workplace safety requirements.

Equivalencies

Starting from March 2025, Canadian Red Cross – Emergency First Aid is equivalent to WorkSafe BC – Basic First Aid.

Similarly, the Canadian Red Cross Also has Emergency First Aid in Blended Format – 4 hours online, 4 hours in Class, you can Finish the course in Half a Day

Faq

1. What are the class hours for Basic First Aid?

Basic First Aid is 8 hours long in total. 7 hours are spent in class, and there are two 15-minute
coffee breaks, with a 30-minute lunch break.

2. Are late arrivals acceptable?

Late arrivals are not accepted under any circumstances. You should arrive in class 15 minutes
before the start time to fill out paperwork.

3. How many questions are in the exam?
There are 25 questions in the exam.
4. What is the passing percentage/mark?
To pass the exam, you need to get 70%.
5. What is the price of Basic First Aid?
BFA is $110 plus 5% GST per student.
6. Can we run Basic First Aid at our jobsite?

Yes, groups of at least 3 up to 18 people can contact us to schedule on-site training via email:

7. Is there an age requirement to Basic First Aid?
You must be at least 16 years old.
8. Do I need any experience prior to taking Basic First Aid?
No prior experience is necessary as this course is designed for beginners.
9. Can you send me the price quote?
Yes, please provide us with your email of choice and the quote will be sent.
10. Can I bring pets to Basic First Aid?
No, under no circumstances should there be pets in the classroom. Exceptions are only made for certified service dogs.
11. Is there parking available and where?

Parking is available at our Guildford location by the fence around the back and sides of the
building.

12. Can I leave training early?
No, to receive your certification, you must complete the full 8-hour course.
13. Can I leave the classroom for 30 minutes and come back to continue the class?
No, to receive your certification, you must complete the full 8-hour course.
14. What happens if I miss the class or don’t ask for a refund in time?
If you miss the class or don’t ask for a refund in a timely manner, you will not be able to get a refund of any kind, meaning you will pay the full price.
15. What is the refund policy?

You can cancel or reschedule a minimum of 5 business days prior to the course. For this you can contact us via email: info@mainlandsafety.ca or by phone: (604) 617-0211.
Business days exclude all statutory holidays in British Columbia and weekends.

16. Is there a fee for refunds even if I request one 5 business days before?
Yes, all refunds are subject to an administrative fee equal to 5% of the courses face value.
17. Will I receive a certificate upon completing the course?
Yes, you will be issued a certificate if you complete and pass the course.
18. How long is the certification for Basic First Aid valid for?

The certification for Basic First Aid is valid for 3 years from the date of completion. After 3
years you will need to retake the full course to get recertified.

19. Can I take a renewal class after my certificate expires?

There are no renewal classes available for Basic First Aid at Mainland Safety. To receive a new
certificate a student must retake and pass the entire course, or its equivalent.

20. Can I take Basic First Aid online?
No, we only offer in person classes at Mainland Safety.
21. Do I need to bring anything to the course?
Just yourself and one government issued picture ID. Participants have the freedom to refuse to present identification, but in doing so they will not be granted a certificate upon completing the course.
22. Is Basic First Aid recognized outside of BC?
No, the Basic First Aid certification is only valid within the province of British Columbia.
23. What is the equivalent certification to Basic First Aid?
Equivalent certifications for BFA include St. John Ambulance, MedAire, Lifesaving Society, and Canadian Red Cross (Emergency First Aid). See here for more details.
24. What language is this course taught in?
This course is taught exclusively in English.
25. Are there prerequisites to this class?
There are no prerequisites to BFA.
