Advanced First Aid (Earlier Occupational First Aid Level 3)

Advanced First Aid (Earlier Occupational First Aid Level 3) is a 70 hour program designed to provide advanced life saving first aid skills for remote worksites or employers with large workforces and are located more than 20 minutes away from medical aid or hospital. Initial certification requires full participation and course attendance. Successful candidates will receive the Worksafe BC Advanced First Aid (Earlier Occupational First Aid Level 3) certificate.

Examination is conducted shortly after the last day of class and is scheduled after each class has commenced. you will be required to pass an examination conducted by a person authorized by Workers Compensation Board. A grade of 70% or higher is required on each segment (written & practical) of the exam for successful certification.

Certification

Valid for 3 years upon successful completion of course.

To renew a level 3 certificate a candidate must successfully complete the Occupational First Aid level three exam.

Faq

1. What are the class hours for Advanced First Aid?

This course is a two-week, 10 day, 70-hours long program that is 7 hours each day. All days
have two 15-minute coffee breaks, and a 30-minute lunch break. Advanced First Aid operates
from Monday to Friday on both weeks.

2. Are late arrivals acceptable?

Late arrivals are not accepted under any circumstances. You should arrive in class 15 minutes
before the start time to fill out paperwork.

3. How many questions are in the exam?
Advanced First Aid has 4 quizzes and a final exam. The final exam has 113 questions.
4. What is the passing percentage?
To pass the exam, you need to 70%.
5. What is the price of Advanced First Aid?
AFA is $900 plus 5% GST per student.
6. Can we run Advanced First Aid at our jobsite?
Yes, groups of at least 3 up to 12 people can contact us to schedule an on-site training via email at info@mainlandsafety.ca or by phone: (604) 617-0211.
7. Are there age requirements to Advanced First Aid?
You must be at least 16 years old.
8. Do I need any experience prior to taking Advanced First Aid?
No prior experience is necessary, but you do need the Statement of Fitness form.
9. Can you send me the price quote?
Yes, please provide your email of choice and the quote will be sent.
10. Can I bring pets to Advanced First Aid?

Under no circumstances should there be pets in the classroom. Exceptions are only made for
certified service dogs.

11. Is there parking available and where?

Parking is available at our Guildford location by the fence around the back and sides of the
building.

12. Can I leave the training early?
No, to receive your certification, you must complete the full 70-hour course.
13. Can I leave the classroom for 30 minutes and come back to continue the class?
No, to receive your certification, you must complete the full 70-hour course.
14. What happens if I miss the class or don’t ask for a refund in time?

If you miss the class or don’t ask for a refund in a timely manner, you will not be able to get a
refund of any kind.

15. What is the refund policy?
You can cancel or reschedule a minimum of 12 business days prior to the course. For this you can contact us via email: info@mainlandsafety.ca or by phone: (604) 617-0211. Business days exclude all statutory holidays in British Columbia and weekends.
16. Is there a fee for refunds even if I request one in a timely manner?
Yes, all refunds are subject to an administrative fee equal to 5% of the courses face value.
17. Will I receive a certificate upon completing the course?
Yes, you will be issued a certificate if you complete and pass the course.
18. How long is the certification for Advanced First Aid valid for?

The certification for Advanced First Aid is valid for 3 years from the date of completion. After 3
years you will need to retake the full course to get recertified.

19. Can I take a renewal class after my certificate expires?

There are no renewal classes available for Advanced First Aid. To receive a new certificate a
student must retake and pass the entire course, or its equivalent.

20. Can I take Advanced First Aid online?
No, we only offer in person classes at Mainland Safety.
21. Do I need to bring anything to the course?
You will need the Statement of Fitness form, and one government issued picture ID. Participants have the freedom to refuse to present identification, but in doing so they will not be given a certificate upon completing the course.
22. Is Advanced First Aid recognized outside of BC?
No, Advanced First Aid certification is only valid within the province of British Columbia.
23. What is the equivalent certification to Advanced First Aid?

Equivalent certifications for AFA include St. John Ambulance. Emergency Medical Responder
(EMR), Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) and Critical Care Paramedic (CCP) can be considered as alternatives to Advanced First Aid depending on the circumstances. See here for more details.

24. What language is this course taught in?
This course is taught exclusively in English.
25. Are there prerequisites to this class?
